چکیده
Abstract The 2011 Tohoku-oki earthquake ( M w 9.0) was characterized by a huge fault slip on the shallowest part of plate interface, where behavior had been believed to be aseismic. In this study, we modeled two-dimensional resistivity distribution across area based ocean-bottom electromagnetic measurements understand physical properties around interface controlling rupture processes. optimal 2D model showed conductive coseismic observed, whereas deeper nucleated relatively more resistive. interpreted have high pore seawater fraction, as dry area. These findings are consistent with hypothesis that aseismic frictional conditions changed enhancing when propagated wet, clay-rich also revealed under outer-rise Pacific Plate. This finding supports existence hydrated oceanic crust supplied aqueous water subduction zone, including Graphical

Dynamic rupture of the 2011 Mw 9.0 Tohoku-Oki earthquake: Roles of a possible subducting seamount
[1] Using a hybrid MPI/OpenMP parallel finite element method for spontaneous rupture and seismic wave propagation simulations, we investigate features in rupture propagation, slip distribution, seismic radiation, and seafloor deformation of the 2011 Mw 9.0 Tohoku-Oki earthquake to gain physical insights into the event. With simplified shallow dipping (10 ) planar fault geometry, 1D velocity str...
متن کاملA dynamic model of the frequency-dependent rupture process of the 2011 Tohoku-Oki earthquake
We present a 2D dynamic rupture model that provides a physical interpretation of the key features of the 2011 Tohoku-Oki earthquake rupture. This minimalistic model assumes linear slip-weakening friction, the presence of deep asperities and depth-dependent initial stresses. It reproduces the first-order observations of the alongdip rupture process during its initial 100 s, such as large static ...

21 The 2011 Mw 9 Tohoku-Oki earthquake, the best recorded earthquake in the history 22 of seismology, provides unique opportunities to address fundamental issues in 23 earthquake source dynamics. Here we conduct a high resolution array analysis based 24 on recordings from the USarray and the European network. The mutually consistent 25 results from both arrays reveal unprecedentedly observed ru...

متن کاملCompressive sensing of the Tohoku‐Oki Mw 9.0 earthquake: Frequency‐dependent rupture modes
[1] Compressive sensing (CS) is a technique for finding sparse signal representations to underdetermined linear measurement equations. We use CS to locate seismic sources during the rupture of the 2011 Tohoku‐Oki Mw9.0 earthquake in Japan from teleseismic P waves recorded by an array of stations in the United States. The seismic sources are located by minimizing the ‘2‐norm of the difference be...
